Martínez Loriente S.A was established in January 2000, starting its operations in June 2002 in Cheste´s factory and adding another plant in Tarancón in September 2004. Company’s activity focuses in the packaging meat process and the manufacturing of meat products as portion consumers. The main plant is located in Cheste, which is 33.000 m2 of useful area, and it has 950 workers more or less, and its production capacity is that of 100.000 tones/ year of ended product. Nowadays, the activities developed in Cheste are mainly the following ones: quartering and packaging of beef (300 Tn/week), lamb (80 Tn/week), pork (380 Tn/week) and hamburgers and other fresh and cooked meat products. The system of supplying beef reflects: 60% of the production integrated through contract with livestock farmers (60.000 head of cattle in 2005), 20% of purchasing animals in the national market and a 20% from purchasing packaged meat in an empty space in Europe (Denmark, Ireland, Holland). The Technical and Quality Management Department is organised in three areas: Cattle Farming and Supplying, Quality Management and Technical I+D.

Role in the Project

The main role of MARLOSA will be related with RTD III in WP 13 (Application in the food chain) and especially in WP 13.4 (application in beef and lamb), in that sense MARLOSA will be a good company to transfer all basic developments obtained in previous WPs and in WP15.
