BIOMAX brings know-how in professional bioinformatics, with a particular emphasis on generation and annotation of microbial genome databanks, sequence analysis, data integration and gene expression analysis. Biomax provides the IT infrastructure required to integrate different bioinformatics applications and databases, allowing all partners to share experimental data, especially the genomic data of the pathogenic and non-pathogenic microbes under study. In WP 1, Biomax provides a bioinformatics environment to characterize peptides resulting from the convergent evolution approach.

Key persons for PathogenCombat

Dr. Alfred Zollner (involved in WP1) is a molecular biologist and has worked ten years as a bioinformatician. His areas of bioinformatics expertise are functional genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics. He was one of the authors of the MIPS Functional Catalogue, anontology for systematic description of protein function. At Biomax, he is responsible for bioinformatics projects.

Dr. Kaj Albermann (involved in WP1) is a cell biologist who has worked in the area of bioinformatics for eight years. His areas of expertise are functional and structural analysis and annotation of genomes, in particular genomes of fungi and bacteria. He has experience in the development of ontologies and catalogs for the systematic description of protein function, metabolic pathways, and diseases. At Biomax, he is responsible for genome analysis, genome annotation, genome database development, and linguistics.
