The main role of CAGB will be related with RTDIII and especially with WP13  Application in all the food chain. CAGB is a very nice company for application of the results obtained in previous WPs of the project, because its integrated production system, that means that we have control through all the food chain, from growing the animals, feeding, transportation, slaughtering, transformation and selling (distribution and retailing). Furthermore, the Food Safety Management System developed in WP15 will be implemented in the enterprise. Participation in the SME network.

 

Description of the company

CAGB was founded 50 years ago integrated nowadays for more than 552 members, most of them farmers around Burgos. The company follows and integrated scheme of production, that comprises all the food chain in several processing lines as: poultry, beef and pork. It produces from animal feed to the selling of its products in its own net of retailing shops. During 2003 in the poultry area, it has sacrificed 20000 chickens/day, which is 47 millions of chickens and 9,3 millions of Kilograms of poultry, and it has produced 1.4 millions of dozen of eggs. It has also a small milk section that collects milk from cows (2.4 millions of litres in 2003) and from sheep (70000 litres). In the pork section it has been commercialized 6.4 millions of kilograms of pork. CAGB has they own farms (members) and their own animal feed company that suppose more than 40% of its annual incomes. A part it has also and associated company related with the elaboration of dry fermented sausages and dry cured hams. In this moment CAGB is commercializing its products in the north area of Spain (Burgos, Valladolid, La Rioja, Vasc Country, and Santander).
