The main role of Pittas will be related with RTD III and especially with
WP13 Application in the the food chain. Pittas will be
responsible for the application of the previous results within the
production of dairy products. Furthermore, the Food Safety Management
System developed in WP15 will be implemented in the
enterprise. Overall, close cooperation and implementation of knowledge
gained during the course of the research period. Participation in the SME

Company Profile
Pittas dairy Industries Ltd founded in 1939 which has grown into the
leading manufacturer of dairy products in Cyprus. Two generations of
confident and innovative expansion has made Pittas a leader in the dairy
industry with exports all over the world. We were the first Company in
Cyprus to import modern equipment and the first to use pasteurization in
the production methods for or traditional Cypriot dairy products such as
Halloumi®, Yogurt, Fetta, Kashkaval Cheese. Today the Company employs over
200 people and uses the most modern manufacturing processes while still
utilizing the skill and craftsmanship of traditional cheese makers.
Pittas cheeses are also exported to Europe, the United States, the Middle
East, Australia and Japan and account for almost 50% of the total exports
of Cyprus dairy products.
The Company received many awards for our commitment to superior product
quality. In 2001 we received the Silver Award for Kefalotyri Light at the
London International Cheese Competition; in 2000 the Silver Award for
Halloumi® Cheese at the Somerset International Cheese Competition in the
U.K. and in 1997 we received two additional awards for Halloumi® and
Halloumi® Light at the Cheese and Dairy Competition in London. Pittas
Dairy Industries was certified with the ISO 9002:1994 Quality Management
System in 1997 and HACCP Food Safety System in 2003.

Key persons for PathogenCombat
Andreas Hadjipetrou (involved in WP13) is the Quality
Manager of Pittas Dairy Industries. He is the Head of the Analytical and
Microbiological laboratories of the company. Furthermore he has been
responsible for the implementation of the HACCP system in the production of
dairy products, for the preparation of the company to meet the requirements
of various Health Authorities (92/46 EU Directive, FDA regulation etc.) for
the production of Milk and Milk Products.
The Analytical and Microbiological labs carry out on a daily program raw
material, in process, final product and environmental testing (fat,
protein, moisture, total viable count, Staph. aureus, coliforms,
E. coli, yeast and moulds etc.).
