Advantages of EU projects

>  Sharing the risks and costs of research between project partners (and with the EU);

>  Developing technologies that suit their specific needs;

>  Creating lasting networks with partners in other countries;

>  Strengthening their technological innovation capacity and their capacity to absorb new technologies developed by others for them;

Europe’s million SMEs play a vital and dynamic role in the process of innovation within the European Research Area. Many indicators, however, are showing that their research investments, their ability to participate in trans-European networks and the rate of creation of high-tech companies by researchers are insufficient when compared, for example, with American SMEs. The Union is paying – and will continue to pay – particular attention to their participation in European research.
